- 01 April 2022
With Summer in the air and as temperatures start to rise our minds drift off to year-end holiday adventures. We imagine walking on pristine beaches; taking in breath-taking mountain views; enjoying food seeped in rich cultural heritage or maybe it’s a safari experience that you daydream about.
Even though there’s something alluring about far-away travels, there’s a lot to be said for discovering your homeland like a tourist. And because we all need a little something extra - an extra day of leave or an extra day or two of holiday without the added costs that come with it.
From city life to adventure, wildlife to culture, breath-taking scenery, and sun-soaked coasts – we’ve put together an itinerary to help you explore your favourite local city and even get to stay longer with Marriott Bonvoy!
Experience the magic of the Mother City
Cape Town is renowned for being a cosmopolitan city surrounded by nature. The city is famous for being centred around the majestic Table Mountain one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
There is much to discover in the Mother City - from its pristine beaches, breath-taking biodiversity, sun-soaked vineyards and award-winning food and wine. Stellenbosch is home to some of the world’s most sought-after wine farms that offer exceptional wine-tasting experiences and fine dining too.
Experience vintage hospitality when you stay at the Protea by Marriott Hotel Dorpshuis & Spa Stellenbosch. Situated along the wine route in Stellenbosch it’s perfectly located so you can explore this small town with majestic wine farms and superb restaurants.
Explore the wild side of Durban
There’s something magical about KwaZulu-Natal’s Elephant Coast located just north of Durban. Called the Elephant Coast after the country’s largest herd of indigenous African elephants that have lived in sand forests in this region for centuries, the Elephant Coast extends inland across to the Lubombo Mountains in the west and includes the Hluhluwe- Imfolozi Reserve the oldest game park in Africa and home to the Big Five.
Beautiful and diverse there’s much to experience and the area is a treasure trove of natural splendour. Wonderous wetlands, rare sand forests and vast bushvelds so you can unwind, recharge, and become one with nature.
Immerse yourself in a cultural historic Joburg experience
Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city overflows with history and an abundance of cultural colour.
Soweto is regarded as one of the top tourist spots in the region for foreign travellers because a rich part of the history of the country can be discovered in the heart of Soweto. Between 1946 and 1962 Nelson Mandela lived on Vilakazi Street, you can learn about his life through a tour of his old house, which is now a museum. Desmond Tutu also lived on the same street, making it the only street in the world that’s been home to two Nobel Peace Prize winners.
You can check in at the Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch to experience all that Jozi has on offer:
